About

Veryan Indoor Bowls Club has a four rink purpose built facility which was opened in 1988 by the then president of the EIBA Mr Tom Blake. The Club soon became an important part of the Cornish bowling scene and within a few years had a membership in excess of 280.

The formation of the club was a triumph for community effort. The original inspiration came from a handful of villagers and members of the existing outdoor club who by subscriptions and issuing bonds to raise finance got the project underway. Loans and grants were obtained from the Sports Council and much of the construction work was carried out by local volunteers. Within the remarkably short period of 14 months the club was opened. The event was marked by making Ivor Buddle and Gilbert Grigg Life members, in recognition of all the time and effort they had put into making the original concept a viable Club. A magnificent 6ft square framed painting of the club badge painted by local artist, Harvy Granger was fixed to the Arena wall.

In the intervening years Veryan has played a major role in the activities of the Cornish indoor scene providing Presidents for both the Mens and Ladies Indoor Bowing Associations and hosting many important competitions. Today the club’s membership is drawn from a wide area including Helston, Penzance. Truro and St Austell. We have a busy program of events with sessions for new members, local schoolchildren, for club triples leagues, friendly matches, county and national competitions.

Our facilities are particularly attractive for touring clubs. Veryan is famous for its picturesque round houses and the nearby Pendower and Carn Beaches are the best on the Roseland Peninsula. A wide choice of accommodation is available from caravan parks, B & B’s to luxury hotels. The Club has ample parking space for coaches and the Sports and Social Club Bar may be available subject to Government Cov.19 regulations.

Coaching

At Veryan Indoor Bowls Club we have experienced players and past coaches who can help new members, beginners and even established players to develop and improve their skills, learn the rules and acquaint themselves with the etiquette of the game.
Members should speak to one of the Committee for coaching information.
